2026 Educational Foundation Award Ceremony
The San Antonio, Texas Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Alamo Chapter continues to make a meaningful impact across the region by investing in the next generation of leaders.
At the March 25, 2026 Educational Foundation Awards Ceremony, held at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church in San Antonio, the chapter proudly awarded 35 scholarships—supporting 17 Junior ROTC cadets from the San Antonio area and 18 ROTC cadets attending universities across South Texas. The ceremony was presided over by Chapter President USA LTC (Ret) Aimee M. Schumacher.
A highlight of the event was the keynote address by Colonel Lee A. Evans, a San Antonio native and Director of Army JROTC for U.S. Army Cadet Command. In his role, Colonel Evans oversees more than 4,000 JROTC programs nationwide, helping shape and develop future leaders at scale. His remarks underscored the importance of service, leadership, and the powerful role these programs play in shaping young Americans.
These scholarships recognize more than academic achievement—they honor character, discipline, and a deep commitment to service. The ceremony brought together military leaders, educators, families, and community members to celebrate cadets who embody these values.
For those of us serving on the MOAA Alamo Chapter Educational Foundation Board, the ceremony was especially meaningful. Seeing these young men and women step forward—eager to serve and make a difference—reinforces why this mission matters. The impact is real, and it is lasting.
Through the generosity of its members and supporters, the MOAA Alamo Chapter Educational Foundation continues to open doors—helping cadets pursue higher education while preparing for careers in military service. These scholarships are more than financial support; they are an investment in leadership, integrity, and the future of our nation.

Your Vote Counts
There are many urgent and consequential developments unfolding in the world right now from the war in the Middle East to government funding challenges to immigration debates. We need to keep in mind that we are part of one of the greatest advocacy organizations in the United States, MOAA! That being said, it is most important you make your voice heard on all the issues that MOAA is advocating for. Therefore, I continue to encourage you to log on to MOAA.org, go to the Legislative Advocacy Center at https://moaa.quorum.us, and send those letters to your senators and representatives. Staying engaged—through letters, phone calls, or emails—helps ensure elected officials remain attentive to the concerns of those constituents they represent.
As we approach the November elections, I encourage all Alamo Chapter members to take a moment to check your voter registration and ensure everything is up to date. If you vote by mail, ensure that your application for the mail in ballot is up to date by calling your county voter office and inquiring. Your participation is vital—make sure your voice is heard by casting your ballot. In the coming months, you’ll likely encounter a tide of conflicting information and differing perspectives about candidates and issues. Please take the time to research, consider multiple viewpoints, and thoughtfully evaluate each candidate so you can make the most informed decision possible. Your vote matters!
